Start with records, not an ideal spending target
Pick one calendar month and gather the transactions for the accounts you actually use. Write down the date, description, category, amount and account for each entry. Begin with what happened; a target based on incomplete records can hide the problem you are trying to understand.
Use a small set of categories you can apply consistently: housing, food, transport, health and other spending. A category tells you what the money was for; an account tells you where it came from. Keep those two ideas separate.
Separate spending from moving your own money
A transfer from checking to savings changes the location of your money. It is not the same event as buying groceries. Likewise, if you record each credit-card purchase as an expense, recording the full card payment as another expense would count the same spending twice.
Choose a recording method before reconciling accounts. WealthOS does not have a dedicated transfer workflow: do not add both sides as ordinary income and spending if you expect those totals to represent purchases and earnings.
A monthly total is not a payment calendar
Imagine monthly income of 3,000, fixed costs of 1,200, variable spending of 700 and 300 set aside. The arithmetic remainder is 800. The example works in dollars or euros, provided every amount uses the same currency. It does not tell you whether a bill due on the fifth can be covered by pay arriving on the fifteenth.
List due dates beside recurring bills. At the end of the month, compare your records with the statement and investigate missing transactions, duplicates and refunds before changing categories to make the total look right.
Put the method into practice
In WealthOS, create your main account first, then record income and expenses in Transactions. Current-month fixed expenses are recorded when due as you open or refresh your data, or after the day changes with the app open, using Brasília time. This updates your records; it does not pay a bank bill. Earlier months can be recorded manually.
Use the calculator below for an independent illustration in USD, EUR or BRL. The application itself currently records BRL and does not convert US or European bank statements into another currency.
- Choose the month and the accounts included in your review.
- Record each expense once, with a consistent category.
- Check recurring bills and dates before treating a remainder as available money.
- Reconcile the month against your original records.

Local calculation: enter all amounts in the same currency. Nothing is sent or saved. The result is an arithmetic difference, not a recommendation on how much to spend.
BRL, USD and EUR are available here to illustrate the calculation. Changing currency changes formatting, not the amounts. This does not add multi-currency support to the application.
